Bespoke Builder Services has been appointed Principal Designer Advisor by Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects on a new student village scheme close to Coventry University’s Priory Street Campus.
The 10,690sqm building includes three towers, rising to ten, twelve and fourteen storeys. The orientation of the towers complements existing and recently consented developments adjacent to the site. The student village offers a diverse range of study and social spaces to provide a high quality student residential experience. The 586 room student Accommodation is arranged within a row of three storey townhouses, which follow the curve of London Road, serving to clearly define the site perimeter and shield the rest of the site from the busy road.
Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects is an award winning practice and was formed in 1991. For further information on this major project, please click here.

We are pleased to announce that the mixed-use project on Godson Street, Islington, won the RIBA London Award 2016 earlier this month. BBS was appointed as the Approved Inspectors on this project by Edgley Design back in 2012 and saw the project through to completion in late 2015.
“Godson Street is a distinctive and original piece of form-making. An innovative mixed-use scheme, the design’s striking geometry and subtle colour palette make it an arresting addition to the local landscape. The partners have transformed Godson Street, with the project emerging from a disused and rubbish-filled site into an eye-catching addition to the city”.

Architect: Contemporary Design Solutions
Main Contractor: Designated Contractors Limited
Building Control: BBS Building Control Limited
Work is nearing completion on this interesting mixed-use development. The scheme combines a 55 bedroom hotel, student accommodation (comprising 471 rooms over 17 floors), commercial and retail space located at the ground and mezzanine levels. The basement contains a health club, laundry and staff facilities. The project is unique as it is made of ‘pods’ that are manufactured in China and shipped to the UK. The pods are already fitted out during the manufacturing process, so ready to use once they have arrived on site and the services connected. Works on site are progressing well and quickly. The pods, steel frames and concrete floor decks are all complete and the external cladding and insulation in currently in progress.
The client, Hallmark Estates, has also recently appointed BBS to provide the Building Control services on another project in North London of a similar type to the Colindale scheme. This new build project will incorporate 273 student accommodation units and a warehouse.

Hospice in the Weald is a charity local to BBS’ Head Office in Lamberhurst, Kent. The charity provides support for people with terminal illnesses in the Kent and East Sussex area. No charge is made for these services which are provided on the basis of need rather than ability to pay. The Hospice relies on donations to fund their work and needs to raise over £7 million each year to provide their vital services to not only patients, but their families and carers as well.
BBS is delighted to, once again, be sponsoring the annual cycling event, Wheels Around the Weald, which this year takes place on Sunday 26th June. A team from BBS will pedal their way around the 40 or 80 mile cycle routes.
Last year the event brought together over 300 cyclists and raised more than £20,000. This year, we hope to raise even more money!
If you would like to take part in the event, you can sign up here: http://www.hospiceintheweald.org.uk/fundraise/event/wheels-around-the-weald-2016

The Home Quality Mark is a rigorous and relevant standard for new homes. Developed by BRE – the UK’s leading building science centre – it helps everyone understand the quality, performance and attributes of new build homes.
Looking for a home with reduced payments and less maintenance? One that is cheaper to run, better located, and more able to cope with the demands of a changing climate?
Look for the Home Quality Mark.
Giving you peace of mind
Developed and assessed by independent experts, the Mark rates the quality, efficiency and performance of each home in ten key areas. Easy to understand and compare, the ratings remove the guess work from one of life’s most important decisions.
Meeting your needs
The Mark also considers the things that influence everyone’s quality of life: space, comfort, light, noise and access to local amenities. Ratings for each of these provide a clear and comprehensive picture that will help you find a home that really works for you.
Saving you money
The Mark brings financial benefits too. Homes receiving a high rating are cheaper to heat and power and less likely to need expensive repairs and maintenance.
How can I obtain certification under The Home Quality Mark?
BBS has independent, fully trained licenced assessors who will rate the new home based on a wide range of technical criteria. Further information for homebuilders and homebuyers is available from our Environmental team. Please contact Louise Veiga on: 01892 891280 or email: email@example.com
